The Christmas Message: King Herod

When the wisemen came to Jerusalem, they spoke with King Herod. They wanted to find the new King of the Jews so they could worship him. Herod seemed like a logical choice, but it wasn’t him, nor in his family.

Herod didn’t know where Jesus was, but as King, he was able to call upon scholars and priests who did know.

Herod told the wise men where they could find the baby. Asking that they bring back news of his exact location so he could also go and worship. But he had ulterior motives.

But Herod wasn’t wanting to worship Jesus. He was angry and fearful at the thought of losing his power.

Unwilling to give up control, he vowed to himself to kill the child so he could remain in charge.

When the wisemen didn’t return, Herod ordered the execution of all male babies under the age of three.

All so that he could stay in control.
